Winners of Somerset Community College Theatre's "Winter Shorts Film Festival."
On Saturday, January 23rd, Somerset Community College Theatre hosted its second annual Winter Shorts Film Festival. Twenty four short films were screened in the day-long event. There were also free filmmaking workshops and and a reception for the filmmakers. Awards were given in two categories; Independent Filmmakers and Teen Filmmakers. In the Best Film category, the award for the Best Domestic Film went to "Washed Up" by the film team Galligator. "Color Matching" by Peter Whitwer Films from The Netherlands was voted the Best Foreign Film. The Best Film in the Teen Category went to Silhouette Studios' "Irony."
The Outstanding Documentary award went to Jim Stout for "An Uncommon Common Man." "Weight Loss" by Four Deep Productions received the award for Outstanding Movie Trailer. Rockcastle Middle School Leadership Team won the award for Outstanding Public Service Announcement for their P.S.A. entitled "Candy Grams."
The most awards in the Independent film category went to "Dear Child Jesus" by Jesus Perez- Miranda from Madrid, Spain. This short film was awarded Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Audio, Best Supporting Performance and Best Leading Performance.
"Color Matching" by Peter Whittwer Films from The Netherlands won three other awards besides taking the Best Film Award. Those were Best Cinematography, Best Director and Outstanding Technical Acheivement.
In the Teen category, the short film "Irony" by Silhouette Studios won the most awards taking home six including Best Ensemble Performance, Best Supporting Performance, Best Editing, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Film.
Also receiving awards in the Teen category were Trevor Bertram productions for "Chamaggedon." This animated short received the Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.
Perry Wesley and Brandon McCane from Middlemen Productions won the Best Audio and Best Leading Actor respectively in the Teen Category for their film "Home Sweet Home."
Berea filmmakers Mr. Tickles Collective won the award for Best Ensemble Performance for their short film "Berea 2055."
Special Creative Achievement Awards in the Teen Category went to "Chammagedon" for creativity in animation; "Home Sweet Home" for a creative surprise ending; and "Irony" for creative use of locations.
In the Independent film category Creative Achievement Awards were awarded to "Grandfather's Skip" for creativity in animation; "Berea 2055" for creativity in fight choreography; and "The High Noon Moon" for creativity in the creation of alien life forms.

SCC's Winter Shorts Film Festival is an annual event that is hosted each January on the Somerset Community College campus.
